AFCON is one of the most exciting region competitions in soccer. Everyone is talking about the highlight of Cameroon winning it again. Also, Sacramento Republic almost get shafted last minute and Red Bull NY has no class.
African Cup of Nations is a competition that showcases some of the best talent in the world. It’s especially important for domestic-based African players as they get to showcase themselves for some of the biggest clubs.
Some took it more seriously than others, we’re looking at you Matip. It’s always a tough competition as it comes in the middle of a season. Many leagues will stay away from African players because this competition calls them away once every 2 years.
Sacramento is a small market but they are mighty when it comes to supporting their local soccer club, Sac Republic. In fact, it’s so impressive that it helped add interest into expansion once again. Unfortunately, the investors that are helping them get to MLS did regard them the same and bid without them. We’re hearing it’s all cleared up and we hope that true!
Red Bull NY, a rival of Frank Lampard’s last club NYCFC, decided to honor Franks retirement with a joke tweet. Unfortunately for them it was received poorly, especially overseas where he is a major legend. Watch to see what/how they did to raise the eyebrow of the twittersphere.
How many chances can this kid get? Hopefully many more! He’s got real talent he just needs to put it all together. We’re hearing that Portland has released him without contract. Looks like he’s going to have to find some other club or another situation where he can mentor.
The womens club league has had it’s share of mishaps and missteps but this deal with Lifetime networks seems like a win-win. What are your thoughts on the state of the league and if this will help raise the cache of what they’re trying to achieve.
