MLS Cup is the ultimate competition for soccer in the USA. Less than 2 years after starting Cooligans, we’ve been invited to MLS Cup final in Toronto. Come along with us as we explore everything MLS has planned for us, and Toronto has in store for us.
MLS Cup is a great time. You’d think it would just be the match itself but there is so much more. There’s media day, parties, eating, networking, and then finally there’s the game. MLS isn’t perfect, but what got to see and hear first hand from league officials, employees, to the partisan media which follows the league, that they’re hell bent on making it better every year. As fans we watch the league and wish the few downfalls could be handled immediately. It’s not alway that easy and, frankly, we have a new found respect for the league on a logistical level.
One thing we can 100% say about MLS is that they know how to throw a party. MLS Cup final was one non-stop party and it should be. This is the culmination of the entire year and all of the stresses that come with it. They should party. Frankly, we’re just excited we got invited!
We missed the TFC training cause we were late so we got there just in time for lunch and Seattle Sounders FC training. Seattle looked loose and focussed at the same time. The players were super gracious yet Coach Schmetzer wasn’t having any of our funny questions. In fact, watch as he throws the ultimate shade at Alexis in this video.
MLS Cup Final Media Party
What a great mixer! We got to meet Juan Agudelo, Sean Johnson, CJ Sapong, Alexi Lalas, Rob Stone, Sacha Kljestan, and so many more people associated with the American game. We’re all super best friends and are going to totally rent a boat and go fishing. I may be making that last part up but thats kind of how it felt. Maybe thats just the free booze and risotto talking, who knows!
MLS Cup Final
The MLS Cup final had many highs and lows. you guys know the final score, here’s the sights and sounds you may not have heard/seen. BMO field was dope and had a great atmosphere. Was it cold, yeah, we thought we were going to lose our pinky toes but it was worth it. We also got on the pitch to celebrate the win with the players and Drew Carey (comedain/ SSFC owner). The after party was dope and we made good use of ourselves. We can’t wait for next year!

About The Cooligans:
Two soccer obsessed comedians from NYC want to show the world not all of soccer fandom involves broken bottles, newspapers with coins in them, or pepper spraying the opposing players. Sometimes soccer fans are the coolest guys in the room.
